Joslyn Castle & Gardens presents Architecture on Tap, a celebration of the historic communities and people that make Omaha unique.

Architecture on Tap is a happy hour history hang-out happening Thursdays in July and August! Grab a beer from Infusion Brewing Company, then settle in for a low-key lecture presented by a local expert inside our historic Carriage House.

Carter Lake...what's the deal?! In 1877, the Missouri River changed course, leaving in its wake an oxbow lake. A little resort community sprung up along the banks of the new lake, and Iowa and Nebraska began a decades-long battle for ownership of the town.

Local historian and author Jim Fogarty of Legacy Preservation will guide us through the odd history of this small town, created by a fickle river and caught between two states.

Architecture on Tap is presented in partnership with AO, Lund-Ross Constructors, Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, Hanscom Park Studio, and Infusion Brewing Company. We are grateful for the support of Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

Doors open to the public at 5:30pm, and presentations start at 6pm.

About Jim Fogarty:
James D. Fogarty is a life-long Omahan with wide experience in newspapers, television, radio and, most recently, in history book publishing. He is a co-founder and co-owner of Legacy Preservation, a 15-year-old company that writes and publishes histories for families, businesses and institutions.

For 11 years, he was a staff writer, and one-time Pulitzer Prize nominee, at the Omaha World Herald. He did 20 years in corporate communications with a national transportation company, publishing their monthly company magazine and managing their 28-state satellite television network.

After early retirement there, he went into business with three others in the book publishing enterprise. Over the years, Fogarty has served as a panelist on KETV’s Sunday news analysis program ‘Kaleidoscope’ with Ben Gray, Lee Terry and Brenda Council. He occasionally fills in on radio-KFAB’s morning and afternoon talk programs and his Legacy company has published more than 110 books for significant families and businesses in 15 states. A local press veteran recently referred to Jim Fogarty as a "Media Monster."

On the side, Fogarty and former WOWT news producer John Prescott perform with their Irish-Bohemian folk singing troupe named ‘Shamrock and Kolache.’ Jim is married to Colleen McGill Fogarty R.N. They have 4 supposedly grown children and 7 faultless and extraordinarily talented grandchildren.
