Castlecore Spectacular

The Castle & Cathedral Creative District presents Castlecore Spectacular, a celebration of all things Medieval in the fantastic setting of Omaha's own Joslyn Castle.
Hear ye, hear ye! Your presence is requested at the Castle!
From 2pm to 3pm the Fontenelle Forest Raptor Program will grace us with a presentation on falcons and their importance in the medieval era, featuring two falcons from their rescue program! Guests will then be able to ask questions and take photos with the birds after the presentation.
At 3pm we will have a guest lecture by Nebraska University History Professor, Carole Levin, discussing the life and legacy of the chainmail icon herself: Joan of Arc. Defying age, gender, and status, Joan of Arc, a peasant girl in fifteenth century France, became one of the most famous women in the medieval world. During Joan’s time, the English had conquered much of France. Claiming that she was called to defend France by St. Michael, St. Katherine, and St. Margaret, Joan convinced the Dauphin to give her an army and turned the tide of the war before she was captured, put on trial by the English, and burned to death at the age of nineteen in 1431. This talk will present Joan’s story and then the impact she had in the centuries after her death, ending with fashions influenced by Joan of Arc today.
