Oyate Woyaka (The People Speak) is a documentary film that follows traditional Lakota elders and fluent speakers as they work with younger generations to restore their beautiful language and culture while processing and healing from intergenerational trauma.
OYATE WOYAKA tells the story of the Lakota language history, loss and revitalization. The film touches on the deep history and spirituality of the language, the shocking history that caused Lakota to be on the verge of extinction and the modern efforts being made to bring language back to life and the immense challenges this effort faces.
This is a fundraiser for Oyate Woyaka project, admission is a suggested donation of $15 - $25.
