The Joslyn Castle hosts many educational and cultural programs and events throughout the year. The Castle is a magical setting for music, theatre, discussion, exploration and more.  George and Sarah Joslyn loved having live performances and meetings at their home.  We are honored to continue this legacy. Art and Literary Festival: A Celebration of Nebraska's Women

2017 Joslyn Castle Art and Literary Festival: Celebrating Nebraska's Women

SEPTEMBER 21-SEPTEMBER 27, 2017

Admission to the following exhibits is included with the ticket price for ALL festival events. General admission rates are $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for students/seniors/military , and children 5 and under are always FREE. For those only wishing to visit the art exhibits during the festival, the Castle will be open Saturday, September 23 and Monday, September 25 from 10:30am-2:00pm.

General Admission Exhibits:
1. The Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) presents a collection featuring art from female Nebraskan artists.

2. Omaha's own Judith Welk will curate a collection of Scenes of Nebraska.

3. The Union for Contemporary Art in collaboration with Girls, Inc will display a mural in the style of Lincoln’s Nancy Friedemann-Sachez.

Special Festival Events (Ticket Prices Vary): 

Thursday, September 21, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Nebraska’s State Poet Laureate, Twyla M. Hansen will share passages from three of her books in an intimate poetry reading. Admission is $20.00.

Friday, September 22, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Celebrate the official kick-off of the festival at our Artists Reception. At 6 p.m., author Eileen Wirth will lead a talk about Nebraska’s historic women in journalism. Admission for the reception and talk is $15.00.

Saturday, September 23, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Anne Nagosky, director of one of the largest private violin and viola studios in Nebraska, will lead a performance of her students. The performance will include students of various ages followed by a Q&A with Anne and several of the students. Admission is $10.00.

Saturday, September 23, 7:00p.m. – 10.00 p.m. - Juno's SwansNebraska Shakespeare's all-female performance program, will remount select scenes from the much-acclaimed reading of Richard 3 (originally presented at the Blue Barn Theatre.) This unique event will include a discussion about the impact of women's voices in Shakespeare performance. The evening also includes musical performances from two local female songwriters.  Admission is $25.00. 

Sunday, September 24, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Nebraskan author and attorney Sally Bisson Best will lead a talk about historic suffragette Doris Stevens, a pioneer for local women’s rights at the turn of the Century. Admission is $15.00.

Sunday, September 24, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. - “A Showcase of Women Who Rock: Presented by BFF Femme Fest,” a rocking concert event in the Castle, featuring All Young Girls Are Machine Guns. Admission is $15.00.
