The poems in Amy Haddad’s The Most Potent Weapon read like “enlightenments from life on the road,” to borrow from Paul Theroux, for those who journey with end-stage or chronic illness. With a rare insider’s view of the world of health care from the dual perspective of nurse and patient, Haddad reveals courage, frailty, grace, and humor in poems grounded in clinical authenticity. Following a reading of selected poems from The Most Potent Weapon there will be time for discussion/questions and a chapbook signing. Chapbooks will be available for purchase that evening.

Amy Haddad is a poet whose poems have found a home in various literary journals such as: Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of Medical Humanities, Touch, Bellevue Literary Review, Aji, Oberon Literary Journal, Cloudbank, Abandoned Mine, Hare’s Paw Literary Journal, Rogue Agent Journal, Rinky Dink Press, Intima, Red-Headed Stepchild, and Abandoned Mine. Her first chapbook: The Geography of Kitchens, was published by Finishing Line Press, 2021. Her first poetry collection, An Otherwise Healthy Woman, was published by Backwaters Press, 2022 and received a Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing. Her newest chapbook, The Most Potent Weapon, was published by Bottlecap Press in late 2025.
